Why commission a portrait or any other painting? Here are a few examples of problems I've helped my clients with: 1) You have a great family photograph except there's something wrong with it. Someone's eyes are closed or someone isn't even in the picture and you wish they were. Maybe you wish someone wasn't in the picture or the background is awful! 2) You have some great pictures of your kids, friends, parents etc., but none of them together in the same photo. 3) You have some beautiful photos of your great grandmother, grandfather or loved one but it's in black & white. 4) You don't have any photos at all! 5) You went on the vacation of your dreams & your camera was lost or broken and you don't have any pictures of your favorite spot. 6) There's a spot in your home that is just begging for a painting but it's a real odd size. 7) You haven't found anything in the colors you want. I can ... make your not so great photo into real work of art without the "problem" the photo had. ...combine photos and create new compositions. ...turn black & white into full color. Don't have a photo? Not a problem, I would rather take the pictures myself and work from my own photos. It's included, no extra charge! Plus you get to keep the photo's from the shoot. I have a huge reference library if you have a specific type of landscape or background in mind. Remember, your original one of a kind piece of art can be any size, shape or colors you want! Don't know what you want? I'll do several sketches to show you a "preview" of what's possible. A portrait in oils is more than just a picture of your loved ones. An oil painting of that special someone is an ancient tradition that goes back hundreds of years. Photographs can fade and discolor with time but an oil painting will remain a beautiful and inspiring piece of art for years to come! Let me give you an idea for a gift for that special someone who "has everything"! I bet they don't have one of these amazing and personal paintings! What mother, father or grandparent wouldn't love an original piece of art featuring their adorable children? They grow up so fast and who wouldn't want to capture that youthful innocence? And don't forget your pets! I can paint fur just as well as skin. A portrait is also a wonderful way to keep our loved ones who have passed, close to us and alive in our memories. Portraits come in many styles. Some are very formal and others more casual and intimate. Miniature Portraits ![]() Miniature portraiture almost disappeared completely with the invention of photography. But you can still have a piece of this lost art because I am one of the few contemporary artists painting miniature portraits today! What makes these tiny portraits so special? These exquisite portraits are each hand painted, one of a kind, custom pieces of art, that are sure to become treasured heirlooms! Each miniature portrait is custom framed by me and includes a hand crafted wooden easel of appropriate size, so your painting can be displayed anywhere. I also have a collection of vintage frames to choose from for a completely different look of your painting. Pastel, Watercolor or Graphite ![]() Or If You Prefer ... So Many Choices! An oil painting on canvass is the top of the line because it takes more time to complete and it potentially can last longer then works on paper but a painting or drawing in watercolor, pastel or graphite can also give you many years of pleasure and will keep your price low. Please email me for quote on these alternative mediums. Compare my prices and you may be surprised to find them very affordable! Portraits from Life ![]() Pose For Me! As a rule I generally create your portrait by using photographs, that I took or were provided by you, as reference and I can take my time in the studio to complete the finished piece. Your most affordable option is a portrait in oil or pastel from a live pose . This is the ultimate in a traditional portrait experience and a huge challenge for me! All you have to do is make an appointment for you or your child to sit for me, either in your home or in my studio. An oil will take several sittings but a pastel sketch can be done in one to three hours. The longer you pose the better it gets! Email me for a quote on a price for a portrait from life.
