A damp forecast did not stop the Larry’s gang from putting their noses to the
grindstone. The exciting weekend started off with the arrival of R.K. Smith, the
Feature Editor for “Hot VWs Magazine.” He flew from California to Ohio to
meet Larry and Marty, who started Larry’s Off Road Center nearly 30 years ago.
While everyone was bracing themselves for the weekend, there was also a
graduation in the well known “VW Lovin’” family. Their son, Tony,
graduated from high school with honors! Kara, a member of the Larry's Off Road
staff, graduated this year as well. Congratulations to both of them.
Saturday
morning at 9:00 the doors of Larry’s opened and the biggest sale of 2007 (at
Larry’s Off Road Center) was about to begin. From then on, the showroom
didn’t see a dull moment until the sale was over. Once the sale had ended, the
staff at Larry's Off Road filled their vehicles hot dog and hamburgers and
headed on down to KilKare Speedway for the 2nd annual "Racer's
Cookout". The turnout was great. The racers and show car participants got
the chance to talk to R.K. Smith about their racing memories and experiences. It
was a lot of fun and all attendants said they enjoyed themselves!
We pulled up to KilKare Speedway to find a line of racers, swap meet participants, show car participants, and spectators clear down Dayton-Xenia Road. The morning contained registration of drag cars and show cars, but after all that, VW heck broke loose. We had 56 show cars this year, which came from all over the country, and even one couple from Ontario, Canada attended to show off their awesome VW bug. We had 59 race cars attend, ranging from Canada to North Carolina. Damon Harmon set a new record for the second year in a row at Larry’s Spring Nationals; He ran 6.10 on the 1/8 mile track. The E.C.P.R.A. Pro Mod winners were (2nd) Aaron Creech and (1st) Dale Adams. The E.C.P.R.A. Pro Stock winners were (2nd) Damon Harmon and (1st) Oliver Frey. Congratulations!

Once again, we had an amazing turn out. There were show cars and race cars from places as far as Texas and Canada. We would like to thank everyone for coming out and supporting Larry's Off Road Center for 30 years. We would also like to thank R.K Smith, from Hot VWs Magazine for coming out and covering our show. You can find R.K.'s article in the October issue of Hot VWs Magazine, which hits stores on September 1.
