Oh portento! Oh stupor! SATB chor. & orch: Sc &Pts

Johann Christian, the "London" Bach, reinvigorated part of his earlier, Italian period "Gloria" with additional music and a new text by Metastasio, which deals with the slaying of the Babylonian general Holofernes by Judith. The music remained unidentified in a compilation of pieces in the British Library until 2007, when it was discovered by the editor, John Arthur. The cover is a painting by Cristofano Allori (1577-1621): the image of Judith is that of the painter's mistress, who had recently jilted him; the head is that of the painter himself! Score & Pts: $17.00; Score only: $10.00
