Carl Nielsen was drawn towards early music during his later years. As with Brahms, the organ was the vehicle for most of his last compositions. Of the 31 preludes for organ, Peter Ballinger has arranged sixteen for treble, two tenors, and bass viols. Although short, these pieces have a serious depth, and are very suitable for viols. They would be valuable as interlude music for church or theatre.
