Canons and Fugues for Viol Quartet

August Klengel (1783-1852) was known in his day for his contrapuntal skills. A student of Clementi, he later held the important post of first organist of the Dresden Hofkapelle. He edited Bach's Well-tempered Clavier and composed 48 canons and fugues for keyboard. This edition presents 2 of the canons and 7 fugues arranged for viol quartets (treble, tenor, bass/tenor, bass). "The pieces...work remarkably well...a great deal of fun" (Clare Griffel, The VIOL, Summer 2011)
