The songs are mostly concerned with the poet's amours, successful and otherwise. They may be performed in several ways: as songs for soprano with Lute, or with Viol, or both instruments, or sung by bass to the Lute and/or Viol, etc. The two instrument parts are in tablature, and the score also provides their parts in staff notation.
