Robert Jones published his Second Book of Songs and Airs in 1601. It comprises 21 pieces, set for Cantus (medium high voice), 7-course Lute, Lyra Viol, and Bass Voice. The songs are mostly concerned with the poet's amours, successful and otherwise. They may be performed in several ways: as songs for soprano with Lute, or with Viol, or both instruments, or sung by bass to the Lute and/or Viol, etc. The two instrument parts are in tablature, and the score also provides their parts in staff notation.
