Lessons for the Base-Viol, Vol. I

John Moss published this music 1n 1671 under the title "Lessons for the Base-Viol, on the Common-tuning and many other New Tunings: containing Allmans, Corants, Sarabands, Jigg Allmans; in all the usual Keys of the Scale of Musick; together with a Thorough-Bass". There are 26 suites: we are publishing them in separate volumes ordered by the lyra-viol tuning. Volume I contains the four Suites, each of four movements, in ffeff tuning, the standard tuning for bass viol. The score is complete with the tablature and its equivalent staff notation, and the "Thorough-Bass" which may be played on a bass viol.Edited by Stephen Morris. Parts for lyra-viol (with no page-turns in movements) and an accompaniment (bass and the lyra-viol's notation) are included.
