Fantasia Sine Nomine for Viol Quintet (ttTBB)This is a Fantasia "without a name," but actually WITH an In Nomine. The In nomine is the now famous tenor c.f. (cantus firmus) from the Benedictus of the mass "Gloria tibi Trinitas" by Taverner (that's with two 'r's). The In Nomine theme was used as the root of hundreds of compositions for keyboard and viols in the 16-17th century and again in our own era. Sarah Mead, Professor of the Practice of Music at Brandeis, has combined the In Nomine with her own fantasia, which includes a tripla passage embodying the c.f. shared among the five viols followed by sprightly utterances of her own. The piece was highly praised at a recent Viola da Gamba Society Conclave, and will be performed in Australia in April 2014. Score and parts for the five viols. Our Price: $9.00
